On the afternoon of November 6, the Shaoguan City Water Search and Rescue Center held 2019 water emergency drill for in the waters near Wushigang. The drill participated in 9 ships and more than 225 participants. A total of emergency towing, life search and rescue, ship fire, water oil spill disposal by using oil booms and oil absorbent pads and other subject exercises were conducted.
With the implementation of the Beijiang Waterway Five-Change and Three-Energy Upgrade Project and the Wushi Port Integrated Transportation Hub Project, the logistics economy in Shaoguan City and surrounding areas will be further active. The large-scale and specialized development of ships will improve the water freight capacity and reduce the cost of water transportation. At the same time, it also brings more pressure and challenges to water traffic safety management and ship pollution prevention work. Faced with the grim situation of water traffic safety supervision, Shaoguan City will further improve the water search and rescue work mechanism, strengthen the search and rescue capacity building, improve the emergency plan system, actively explore the application of new search and rescue equipment such as drones and diving robots, and enhance the search and rescue capabilities on the water. It is reported that the Shaoguan Municipal People's Government has included the funds for emergency drills on water emergencies into the budget, and the waters emergency drills will form a normal mechanism.
