Various departments of HongKong departments hold joint marine pollution incidents drill

Various departments of HongKong Special Administrative Region Government held an annual maritime pollution accident joint drill in the waters opposite Longzhu Island in Tuen Mun on the morning to test the response capabilities of government departments in the event of oil spills and spills of hazardous and toxic substances in Hong Kong waters.
 
The joint drill was simulated a collision between an oil tanker and a container ship, causing fuel oil to spill from the tanker, and five containers containing ethanol falling into the sea. Afterwards, the oil pollution response team was there to clean up the oil spills on the sea. The Fire Services Department and other response teams were also there to control and dispose of the ethanol that may leak when necessary to avoid threatening the surrounding environment and facilities.
 
All participating units took a series of simulated response actions during the exercise. After the simulated oil pollution accident occurred, the oil tanker anchored in the sea south of Longzhu Island, Tuen Mun, and the rescue team transferred the fuel that damaged the cabin and blocked the leaking cracks to stop the fuel spill from the source. The oil pollution cleanup team erected oil booms to surround the tankers, and used oil booms to erect marine barriers near the tankers to prevent oil pollution from spreading. The exercise also demonstrated the use of pollution-cleaning vessels and Government Flying Service helicopters to spray carburetor on oil floating on the sea using water simulations, as well as the use of oil skimmers and other equipment. When dealing with a simulated leakage of hazardous and toxic substances, the response team lifted the damaged container off the sea to remove the source of pollution.
