CNOOC held first deepwater well control emergency drill

12/Dec/2019

On November 27, CNOOC held the first deepwater well control emergency drill in Haikou City, Hainan Province. Sun Jinsheng, member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the emergency management department, Hainan Provincial Emergency Management Department, and relevant officials of CNOOC attended the drill.

Blowout accidents are vicious accidents in offshore oil and gas exploration and development operations. Improper disposal will cause major casualties, huge economic losses, and serious marine ecological environmental pollution. This emergency drill is the first comprehensive deepwater well control emergency drill of CNOOC. It uses a combination of real offshore deepwater drilling platform drills and onshore emergency response support to simulate the well control emergency and oil spill emergency of the “Offshore Oil 982” drilling platform. It was included personnel evacuation, ROV shut-in, well killing, and oil spill recovery by deploying oil booms and oil absorbent pads, and emergency release. Through this drill, the actual combat capabilities of CNOOC deep-water well control emergency treatment equipment technology, as well as the deep-water well control emergency treatment processes and emergency plans, decision-making mechanisms, materials and equipment, technical solutions and personnel skills were further improved, which further improved CNOOC's deep-water well-control emergency response capabilities and provided safety guarantees for national deep-sea oil and gas exploration and development.
